As an aspiring medical technologist, I would like PAMET to engage more on research studies involving the current health issues in our country. The said organization may use its affiliations/partnerships/linkages to the government and other organizations, internationally and locally, to be able to enhance the competencies of Medical Laboratory Science professionals. I would also like PAMET to broaden the beneficiaries of their services. One common goal of the PASMETH and CHED is to work for the enhancement and continuous development of Medical Technology education so that the profession will be of maximum service to the country.

Another objective that is quite similar would be, to engage in research and community-related activities to be able to study the needs and problems of Medical Technology education and to offer solutions for them.C.Situation #1:In the given situation, the laboratory must not do any procedure with the specimen given.

It is a very important protocol in the laboratory to check the label of the specimen before it undergoes a certain test – because the medical technologist must know what kind of specimen and where or what organ of the body it was taken from. Thus, it is one criteria for specimen rejections. What the laboratory must do is to return the sample from the section/ward/OR it came from, and then the nurse or the surgeon must fill up the information needed to run the test. It is their (the surgeon and the nurse) responsibility to label the specimen because they were the ones that did the operation, and therefore they must know the details needed by the laboratory.IF the laboratory decided to analyse the unlabeled sample, they are doing unethical practices; and therefore are violating the following on the Code of Ethics:Accept the responsibilities inherent to being a professionalPerform my task with full confidence, absolute reliability, and accuracyUphold the dignity and respect of my profession and conduct myself a reputation of reliability, honesty, and integrityA medical technologist must instill in his mind that the samples that are sent are used to diagnose, prevent and treat diseases. He/she has the responsibility to make sure the samples are handled correctly and as intended for the reason that these sample materials are vital in acquiring the knowledge of the patient’s possible disease and the treatment to it.Situation #3:The medical technologist must respect the patient’s right to informed consent, autonomy, and integrity.

If the relatives ask how necessary the tests are, like in this situation, the medical technologist is obliged to inform them and the patient about the bioanalytical aspects of the treatment – meaning, the medical technologist should explain and make sure that both the family and the patient understood the procedure being done. This is to make them feel secure because we all need to be considerate of the patient’s and his family’s thoughts and feelings. On the latter part of the situation, the relatives voiced out that they think that the medical technologist are needlessly tormenting the patient. Here, the medical technologist should act and answer the relative of the patient politely. He must be able to handle the situation in a proper manner and must not let one’s own attitude get in the way of exercising proper behavior and ethical practices. The medical technologist should explain why they are drawing blood from the patient from time to time, of course with right conduct.
