Studies have shown that GMOs have influencedus and negatively affected the world’s economy. What really is the big dealabout GMOs? Why did we decide to alter organisms by increasing their size? Firstof all, GMOs are genetically modified organism that will make anything that afarmer produces in to a bigger and juicier form that farmers cannot produce.

Scientisthad the need to use such genetics to increase our food size. Most people love toeat and genetically modifying our foods will allow people to enjoy the foodsthey like more. World hunger is still a problem in third world countries and inthe US.

It was starting to get harder to feed everyone, but now that scientistare able to insert genes into farmers crops it might be easier to feed the people.How come more and more countries are starting to ban the use of GMOs if theyhelp feed the people in the world? The major issues are environmental and ourhealth. GMOs can really mess up the soil and prevent farmers from growingorganic foods again because of all the chemicals that GMOs produce, which wasinserted into the ground and highly affected the natural process to grow crops.From experience, I never consumed genetically modified foods or know someonethat consumed GMOs. However, I heard they can be capricious to animals, plants,and our soil. GMOs can increase the chances for cancer by consumption. It wouldeasier for a mammal to receive cancer or such disease. Therefore, plants alsopollute the environment because of all the chemicals that are used to growGMOs, not only does it pollute the environment but in fact they also drain thesoil and the minerals that are inside of the soil.

For instance, once a GMO isplanted, that area and some parts around it becomes toxic and it is verythreatening to other living organisms if they encounter genetically modifiedfoods with consumption.            Genetically modified foods benefit farmersbecause they reduce the need of pesticides and herbicides. Farmers areusing less but saving more by using genetically modified foods. It is a win,win for the producers because they are using less and gaining more while savingmoney. There used to be a lotof slogans or sayings of “go green” now some do not hear it as often. It isunnatural to see that humans are destroying what was created for them by usinggenetically modified foods. It is harming the Earth and is life threatening.Genetic engineering creates dangerous side effects.

By mixing the genes fromunrelated species can be unpredictable for the future. Creating a GM plant canproduce new toxins and nutritional deficiencies. This weakness is probably areason why, so many countries banned the use of GMOs.

These bad effects from asmart idea is way to harmful for humans. GMO crops can harm birds, insects,amphibians, ecosystems, and soil organisms. They reduce bio-diversity, pollutewater resources, and they are very unsustainable. For example, Genetic modifiedcrops are eliminating habitat for butterflies, whose populations are down toabout or equal to half in the US. Roundup herbicides has been shown to causedefects in amphibians, embryonic deaths and endocrine disruption, and organdamage in animals even at a very low dose.

Theyincrease toxicity into the food supply and can be extremely dangerous to livingorganisms. Pesticides and herbicides main objective is to kill unwanted plantsand insects.

GMOs have a risk to increased cancer. There are also other healthissues I mentioned earlier such as autism, reproductive disorders, anddigestive problems. By using GMOs, we are putting our children and futuregenerations at risk. Yes, everyone’s research should be needed to explore thisissue further.

Everyone’s idea will not be the same. For example, when somepeople thought that the earth was in the center of the solar system, but thesun is. It took everybody’s research to figure out that the sun is in thecenter of the solar system. If we are going to continue to use GMOs, thenscientists should find ways to prevent most of these side effects. In fact,scientist can find other ways to help make the growth of farmed goods biggerand juicer. I think it is just better to have alternatives in case somethinggoes downhill. There is never an unlimited source unless it is managedproperly.

For example, fresh water. There is only about less than or equal toone percent of fresh drinking water on Earth. In Central Florida, water waspumped down to the drain and Central Florida started to have an increase ofsink holes. In America people use too much gallons of water a day. Our naturalresources will eventually die out and there is no one else to blame butourselves for abusing and not managing them properly.
