The CQC is making sure that all the employers and patients are in safe.3.5a The factors that may cause confrontation are: • Biological – because an individual is in pain or suffering the side effects of medication or substance misuse.• Social – because of being bored, wanting social contact, having a need to be in control, not being able to communicate or understand what is being said.• Environmental – because of loud noise or bad lighting or barriers in the room to mobility.• Psychological – because of feeling left out or lonely.3.5b+c Sometimes an open discussion with any patient, where they are treated with respect and dignity, can often find a solution.
We should take the patient to a quiet place, asking questions and listening carefully to what they say, taking their feelings of being upset or angry seriously and trying to find a way forward that they understand and can agree to.It is important that we get to know the patients we are working with as far as possible so we can recognise triggers to distress. It is also important that we don’t get emotionally involved but we keep a clear head and we are looking out for body language and reactions.
