According to Domestic Violence Act no 116 of 1998 also refers domestic violence as any form of abuse which includes physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and economical harassment. When two partners are in an intimate relationship and one abuses the other, this abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional or combination of all the three types of violence. It is also a persuasive and frequently lethal problem that challenges the society at every level, violence of this nature is often hidden from view and devastates its victims physically and emotionally. Direct or indirect it affects the quality of life in the whole society.
Appropriate legislation to the reduction and prevention of domestic violence is thereafter of critical importance managed by the Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998.
