ADDIE – This is where the training

ADDIE vsRapid Prototyping…..ADDIE’sprovides a structured step-by step instructional design process. It is made upof five stages which are :Analysis –Identify individual or organisational needs to determine training goalsDesign – Thisis where the training system is devised to meet the training goalsDevelopment –Learner and instructor training lesson materials are developedImplementation– this includes testing prototypes and putting the product in full productionEvaluation –Constist of two parts – Formative Evaluation , where beta testing takes placeand Summative Evaluation – which consists of operational dry runs conducted asthe last step of validation in the development phaseThe processesand products of the phases are continually assessed for quality with emphasison how well they meet the users needs.

It is a linear approach to Instructionaldesign. It provides a clear cut step by step sequence of events in teaching alesson. Rapid Prototyping processis more modern and considerably less controlled.  Its non-linear approachallows for more instructional flexibility.

The steps are crunched together toreduce the amount of time needed to develop training .The design anddevelopment phases are done simultaneously and evaluation is done throughoutthe process. An initial prototype is produces and evaluated. Based on thesefindings the prototype is modified to produce a new prototype and this processis repeated as necessary and includes the designers and users.

Here’s theconventional three-step process of creating an effectiveprototype:Creating thePrototype: This is the stage where your create the mock-ups based on thelearning needs of your audience, the instructional strategy decided beforehand, and the technical scope of the project.Reviewing: Thisis the stage where your clients and/or the end-users step in to have the firstpeek. They review the prototype for functionality and usability. This stagecomes quite early in the developmental phase.Refining: Thisis your chance to make slight tweaks or revamp the prototype to match thefeedback and recommendations of the users.
