Air Asia Berhad was established in 1993 and commenced operation on 18 November 1996. Air Asia Berhad is a low cost carrier (LCC) in the airline industry and it is also the largest airline in Malaysia by fleet size and destinations.
On Dec 2001, the heavily indebted airline was purchased by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tony Fernandes’ company which is Tune Air Sdn Bhd for the price of RM1. Air Asia successfully cleared all the debts worthed USD 11 million and become a profitable company nowadays. The main hub of Air Asia is in Kuala Lumpur, namely Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA2) in Sepang, Selangor Malaysia. Air Asia launched the second hub which is Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Penang International Aiport, Kuching International Airport and Langkawi International Airport. Besides that, Air Asia launched its first international flight to Bangkok in 2003. Since then, Air Asia has been expanding its routes to different countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines and China. In 2004, Air Asia launched the Thai AirAsia and began flight to Singapore and Indonesia. Thai AirAsia also offered the flight to Vietnam and Cambodia in 2005 and to Brunei and Myanmar in 2006.
Air Asia launched the flight to London through Air Asia X in 2009. Air Asia has opened a different routes to countries such as Australia, France, Iran, New Zealand and South Korea. With that, Air Asia has maximize the profit of the company. Air Asia flies over 61 domestic and international destinations with 108 routes, and operates over 400 flights daily from hubs located in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
Today, Air Asia flown over 55 million guests across the region and will continue to create more routes to other countries in order to give more advantages to the customers. Five of the Air Asia subsidiaries such as Thai AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia, VietJet AirAsia, Air Asia Philiphines and Air Asia Japan promises to deliver the lowest fare to the customers. Air Asia not only emphasize the profit of the company but also concerned about the community.
