An the cities, which boosted the economy.

An advanced civilization can be defined as many things.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a civilization is a relatively high level of cultural and technological development, and advancement is defined as progression to a higher stage of development. If you put them together, an advanced civilization would “mean” a relatively high level of cultural and technological development that is progressed to a higher stage of development. Although I do not disagree with these statements, I feel as thought there is more to it. It is not only cultural and technological development, but economic development and social development as well. To me, the definition of advancement of civilization is exactly how it sounds, a full advancement of civilization, where the economy progresses positively upward, where men and women equally get Industrialization began in England before coming over to America in the mid-1800s. It was mostly centered in the northeast and boomed when the Civil War began due to need of weapons. Industrialization created employment for women, caused the growth of consumerism and spread the wider transport of ideas. Some changes to the economy occured due to industrialization,  for example, urbanization which led to new jobs and more money, which in turn led to more people moving to the cities, which boosted the economy.

The second wave of the industrial revolution happened in the early 1900s and was mostly about the improvement and distribution of existing technology across the country. Thanks to industrialization, America moved from rural areas as a source of income to cities and factories. Social, political, economic, cultural, and technological changes can be identified in the process of industrialization. Throughout history, and even to present day, industrialization has made a big and noticeable effect on countries, their economies, politics, technology, etc.

We can see the impact on present day that industrialization has caused, for starters, America would just be a giant rural farm land without it. Thanks to industrialization we built factories to make many things that we use today, such as technology, manufacturing, cotton, etc. For example, production was shifted from hand tools to machines and changed from animal power to steam power, and because of those changes, we now have more elaborate and advanced versions of those tools and machines, such as: electric drills to One big factor that changed socially and economically was working conditions. Working conditions for men, women, and children were almost abusive. It was loud, hot, dirty and tiring because they worked long hours.

Their living conditions weren’t much better, because it was dirty and smoky and, essentially, they had to live in quarters where they worked because they needed to be at work early and stayed there very late. Workers formed labor unions, an association of workers that pushed for benefits and reform. This was not an easy thing to do because labor unions were usually outlawed by the government. Many riots took place between striking union workers and the police until the action was passed. One thing that has improved slightly but has still not changed to this day, is that women are still treated less than males in the workplace. Back then women had jobs but they were paid less and did “womanly work”, after industrialization even in the 1900’s things have started improving but to this day we are still not there yet.

Some political changes in the revolution were that the industrialized or developed countries quickly became the strongest powers of the world. Countries were either thought of as developed or underdeveloped. By the end of the 19th century, the United States replaced Great Britain, the ones who basically started the revolution, as the leading industrial nation in the world. In the 20th century, the industrial revolution would spread to almost every part of the world.

These changes turned into the spread of economic systems throughout countries and the creation of new ones: capitalism expanded in the United States, socialism went to Great Britain and France, and the sprouting of communism began in the Soviet Union. This newfound view on advancement also opened up the opportunity to have women vote alongside men and it was expanded across many different places and minds.
