It will be remembered in history as a step closer to equality. The United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day in the Year, 1975. In 1977, Groups came together in an assembly to proclaim March 8th as the Day for women’s rights, commemorating the political, social and economic achievements of women. Throughout time, the idea of Women’s Day celebration has evolved and embraced culture and ethnicity to develop as a celebration of appreciation, respect and love towards women. I strongly believe that the 8th of March must become a public holiday.
Women all over the world celebrate international women’s day, weather its celebrities, and weather its public figures or even everyday hardworking women. They portray an image for the younger generation along with conveying the message of the importance of women in society. International women’s day is a day that inspires women from all ages to remember the hard work females in history had to endure to allow us to have the freedom we have today.
Therefore, women’s day should become a public holiday so that we can show our appreciation to those whom inspired the movement. It is a day for women to evaluate themselves and appreciate each other. Something as simple as going to a beauty salon can make you feel different, renewed and fresh. On this day people would wear purple which represents ‘visionary thinking’ and is also known as the colour of the future to show that no matter what colour your skin is, what race you are, what religion you follow, where you live, how old you are, what you wear on your head, we all come together to achieve a world free of sexism. As a 15 year old Muslim girl I completely believe that it is essential that international women’s day becomes a public holiday.
This day has personally inspired and effected me because I feel connected to something where I could fell proud of who I am and embrace what has been given to me so that later on i can pass it down to the next generations and the next to come.Above all it is crucial for International women’s day to become a public holiday because it shares our ancestor’s history as they fought for our freedom and inspired us to stand up for ourselves. It connects women from all around the world and creates a bond between us all, accepting each other no matter what race, colour, religion or age. It is a day of reflection and action, taking control of what is ahead. ‘I alone cannot change the world, but I cant through a stone across the waters to create many riffles’.
