The inventor of the game of basketball was Dr. James Naismith, the Canadian-American. Since it was cold outside during the cold months, the athletes needed to exercise since their football season had ended. So, the school’s Superintendent of Physical Education, Dr. Luther.
H. Gulick asked Dr. Naismith to create an indoor game so it would exercise the athletes during the cold months. He used a peach basket as a hoop and a soccer style ball as a basketball. Dr. James Naismith never knew that basketball would be a very popular sport worldwide.
That is how basketball came to be.
