Beauty and the Beast is a 1991 American musical, romantic film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation, and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It features music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton. Beauty and the Beast is a traditional fairytale written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and was published in 1740. Gabrielle was born on November 28, 1695, and died on December 29, 1755, in Paris, France. Beauty and the Beast the musical was based off an original book. The story Beauty and the Beast, is about a cruel prince who took taxes from his people, to fill his palace with the most beautiful decorative things. Just after sometime an intruder came into the palace, seeking shelter from the cold, cruel weather.

The old woman offered a Single rose to the prince. The prince burst into laughter and threw the rose back at the old woman. She told him not to be deceived by looks, but when the prince turned her away the second time, the old woman’s disguise melted away and there appeared a beautiful enchantress. She saw no love in the prince’s heart and curse him to be a hideous beast. The rose she gave him was truly enchanted, The rose petals would keep on falling until the beast has learned how to love.

If all the rose petals fall he will remain cursed for his entire life. After the tryouts for this musical were held in Houstan, Beauty and the Beast was shortly on broadway. This musical has premiered in more than 20 countries. “The musical has grossed more than $1.4 billion worldwide and played in thirteen countries and 115 cities, It has also become a popular choice for high school productions” (“Wikipedia”). It also became so popular, that this musical has been translated into 8 different languages: Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, and Italian. (“Beauty and the beast on tour”) The song Gaston is from the musical Beauty and the Beast.

This song tells about when the village sings about how great and powerful Gaston is just after the rejection of the prettiest girl in the village, Gaston’s dream girl. Gaston asks her for a marriage proposal and she rejects him. Therefore, he gets depressed and his assistant, LeFou, sings a song about all the better qualities he has that other people don’t to enlighten Gaston and build his confidence. The moral of the story is never judge someone by their looks, it only matters what their character is.
