Besides GPA, Southwest Tech also identifies academic excellence of students through Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa is an international honour that length of time for two-years institutions which recognizes and encourages sum of money given to help pay for college or school learning among two-years college students. To accomplish or gain with effort this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa provides opportunities for developing leadership and service skills, exchanging ideas and thinking, developing life-long friendships between educated people, and stimulating interest in continuing academic excellence. Students who gain with an overall 3.5 for GPA having completed 12 or more credits in an associate degree program and are invited by the College President are able to participate for the once-a-year induction in the Beta Rho Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. A Phi Theta Kappa member whose GPA falls between 3.0 and 3.5 is placed on club probation. Processes identified in Phi Theta Kappa by laws are used. A member whose GPA falls below 3.0 will be dismissed from the honour .
