Boy shown by bruno saying “I’m not

Boy in the striped pyjamasAn important theme in the boy in the striped pyjamas, written by john boyne is boundaries. This theme is important because without the boundaries he would lose his innocence, another reason is to know when to go out and breach the boundaries, “Some things are just sitting there, minding their own business, waiting to be discovered. Like America. And other things are probably better off left alone.

Like a dead mouse at the back of the cupboard.”Boundaries and obedience are important themes in this novel because bruno breached the boundaries that his parents had set. By this i mean he disobeyed his parents and walked along the barbed wire fence which was forbidden. This is shown by bruno saying “I’m not supposed to be here. If they catch me here i’ll be in trouble”. This example helps up to understand that he is kept in the dark about a lot of things and his father is trying to protect him from the horrors of the holocaust. This is important because if he had known about the things that were going on in the camp, he would have not talked to any prisoners. One reason the theme of boundaries is worth learning about is innocence.

By this i mean if he wasn’t sheltered by his family and learnt what was going on in on the other side of the fence then he wouldn’t have crawled under the fence. An example of this is when father says “Ah, those people,” said Father, nodding his head and smiling slightly. “Those people…well, they’re not people at all, Bruno.” and”I’m asking you, if we’re not Jews, what were we instead?””We’re the opposite,” said Gretel, answering quickly and sounding a lot more satisfied with this answer. “Yes, that’s it. We’re the opposite.

” This shows us that his whole family is trying to shelter him and keep him innocent on what happens on the other side of the fence. This is important because he has no idea of what is happening to the prisoners on the other side of the fence. Also i think they should have let him know a little more about what happens across the fence so then it keeps him satisfied and so then he doesn’t explore too much.Didn’t know how to set out and start the 3rd paragraph ConclusionThrough bruno’s eyes there are a lot boundaries and things he does not understand. The boundaries are there set up to protect him and to keep him in the dark about what is happening on the other side of the fence, but his urge for exploration ultimately leads to his death in a gas chamber.
