Social Media Affecting Health In Young Adults and Teenagers

Throughout social media there has been a very big concern over the past few decades regarding the link between social media and mental health issues. Social media is websites and computer apps that allow people to create, share information, ideas, and video/pictures. Researchers are finding the connection between the increased social media use in the young adult population and increased of mental issues in the same exact population. Social media is changing society but the bad outweighs the good.
This topic impacts every teenagers/young adults that has social media. Everyone has their own thoughts on how social media impacts their lives. Many teens or young adult live revolved around social media and how it affects them on dat to day life. When it comes to social media a lot of people want to “fit in” and make themselves feel good. Cyberbullying is big a problem, social media carries with it because a lot young adults or teenages are not”perfect”. Relationship are ruin because of social media. Many females and males sometime feel intimidated about someone that looks better than they do or who maybe more successful.
Sitting is the new smoking. The more some people use social media, the less happy they feel because it becomes an addiction. A lot of people fall into the trap of comparing themselves to other people as they scroll through their feed and think about how they can be better than them. Someone from the Lancaster psychiatry studied that some people spend to much time on social media and are more likely to suffer from mood problems such as bipolar or neuroticisms. According to Psychcentral, bipolar is a mental disorder that is disorder that is characterized by serious and significant mood swings. Neuroticism is an outgoing emotional state defined by these negative reactions and feelings told medicalnewstoday.
Social media could also have huge impact on education. The use of social network such as instagram, facebook and twitter are very popular social media, especially by most college students. A man name David Gewirtz realized that some of the people who see a personal social media website could be a stranger, a person you might know, or a best friends. Gewirtz warned many students to watch what they are posting online. David Gewirtz says “You could be a teenager today who is 14 and say inappropriate things and then as an adult they could play as fake little kid. ” You could Be a teenager today who is 15 and say inappropriate things, and then as an adult acting like a little kid.
Many people have different opinions when it comes to social media. Social media is the world today. Many people have their fair share of insecurities, some may actually speak up about it, while others that prefers to keep it to themselves. A lot of people pretend to be someone else to feel better about themselves and start actually believing in their lies.
I think my research question should be “why is social media so important?”
