Determining the relationship among these variables in bank employees has significant practical implication. As result of this study, a closer examination of work performance by bank managers towards their employees will help them to identify the issues which affected the individual work performance might be essential in order enhance the banks’ success. Besides, there are various functions a manager performs but motivating employees is the most complicated as employee motivation is a never ending challenge (Lindner, 1998).
The scientific study of the human behavior in the workplace and the information derived from such research able to apply the knowledge to the solution of problems at work (American Psychological Association, 2017). This study seeks to provide an understanding of the tool on how the motivation factors (Intrinsic and extrinsic) can be improved using the mediating effect of psychological ownership by the managers and officers to motivate the employees. This study provide understanding on the importance role of intrinsic and extrinsic motivating factors, as well as the dimensions of psychological ownership which leads to a positive influence on the individual work performance at banks in Malaysia. Therefore, the results of this study can assist the employees to boost their ownership towards their banks by improving the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors. In addition, this research can be added to the current knowledge of intrinsic and extrinsic motivating factors, psychological ownership as well as work performance. By further understanding of this study, banks can save huge amount of money because employees who are more motivated through clear and realistic expectations will work hard to strive success of the bank, thus increasing productivity.
The increase of productivity will leads to good work performance which will improve profits and also leads to more committed employees. Committed employees will create ownership and invested towards their workplace by exerting more efforts. Other than that, motivated employees are essential for fast changing workplaces. Since Malaysia is still a developing country so it is important that the economics of country is well administrated for continuous growth. So, employees can provide maximum efforts in their workplace by understanding the case of employee motivation and ways to ensure more efficient performance from employees.
Thus, the significant of this study is to understand employee psychology and expectation which can help the top management to provide more facilities for them (Nabi, Islam, Dip ; Hossain, 2017). This study also highlight psychological ownership is valuable tool for organization to increases the employee job satisfaction and morality while improving their own productivity. It is also to reveal how organization gain the benefits from psychological ownership because PO will make the employees feel responsible towards their organization which reflect stewardship. Furthermore, this ownership brings attention towards retaining talent and influence employees’ intention to stay with the organization (Olckers, 2012).
The findings from this study might be apply to other employees in other service industry rather than focusing on banking sectors alone. This study provides an important implication for service organization that depends on human capital such as in the banks. In a nutshell, employee excellent performance is essential towards optimization of return on investment, business sustainability and organization performance
