Diagnosis of PCG is largelyclinical, and the molecular mechanisms underlying the responsible geneticdefects are not clearly understood so far.
The concept of biological markers,many of which are proteins, has facilitated and improved the accuracy of diseasediagnosis in recent years as well as directing treatment regimens in some cases(Pandey A, Mann M. Proteomics to study genes and genomes. Nature.2000 Jun15;405(6788):837-46.).
Indeed, relative quantification of protein expressionhas been made possible through gel-based and gel-free techniques of proteinanalysis using mass spectrometry and isotope labeling-based or label-freetechniques. The aim of the current study was to characterise the proteincontent of AH in eyes with PCG. A preliminary report is presented herein. Thestudy identified 109 protein peaks of which 63 % were different between PCGpatients and controls.
