Do you like Nata de coco? Nata is a chewy, translucent, jelly-like food produced by the fermentation of coconut water. My grandparents built their wealth on nata and it became their key to success. They are known because they are the first one to build that kind of business in our town. They are known for being “masipag”, because they also do farming.
For example when my Dad is still a teenager he used to plant different kinds of vegetables just to help his family. He also sells different types of bread while riding a bike. This is the usual set up in our area, because we lived in a rural area. Building their business wasn’t easy, because there are times that my dad couldn’t afford to buy slippers even though he badly need a new one. But what has that got to do with me you might ask? Well I have learned their work ethic and I realized how fortunate I was, because I didn’t go through such hardships like they did.
At 12 years old I’ve been helping out with my parent’s business of supplying medicines for example I helped them collect payments and I also helped them deliver some items. Actually my first choice is to study political science and eventually I’ll study law, but a lot of realization dawned in me. Medicine is actually my second choice, because I’m scared of blood and syringes, but as time goes by I realized that this field could help a lot of people. Well law also helps a lot of people, but I just can’t stand the fact that there will be times that we will fight for what is wrong because they are our clients.
If I study medicine I can help my parent’s when it comes to our business.
