Firstly, it offers variation in the architectural plan of the units. Secondly, it consist of adjustability and adaptability of housing units over time. And finally, it allows buildings to accommodate new functions.

In order to provide flexibility, we should consider the possible future needs of users during the design process; in other words, “long-term thinking” in the design process is required. ? ?Conclusion:On the basis of the case studies above, it can be concluded that the old houses constructed in Varanasi are not flexible enough for the people living now as in most of the houses had a lot of transformation happened or the spaces that are already present are not flexible enough for today’s lifestyle. The alterations are also difficult in some of the houses due to space constraints in most of the houses the privacy need to be compromised to fulfill the needs.Analyzing and understanding of floor plans of different house made in different decades and finding the difference in needs of the people now and then and understanding that the house does not responds to the spatial needs of the people over time.According to the case studies we can see that flexible house is going to be an important concept in the future.Since we can never predict the changes or the technologies that are going to come into our society we need to start building houses that are flexible so that people can easily transform the spaces or change the function of a particular space according to the convenience.?
