Good morning adjudicator, timekeeper, chairperson, opposing team and audience. Today we shall be doing a debate on Australia as a republic we the affirmative team are saying that Australia should become a republic. I the first speaker am talking about the indigenous people our second speaker shall talk about and our third speaker shall talk about. Republic our group believe that a republic is a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch. the key difference between a democracy and a republic lies in the limits placed on government by the law, which has implications for minority rights. Both forms of government tend to use a representational system — i.e., citizens vote to elect politicians to represent their interests and form the government.

Now on to my point, the aboriginal people will be greatly affected in a good way. if we became a republic then more power would be handed to the indigenous Australians so we would not have
