The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services have identified some of the health-acquired conditions where payment is provided to the affected patients (Hollnagel, Braithwaite, & Wears, 2015). These conditions are majorly attributed to medical errors or accidents in healthcare facilities.
However, there are several recommendations meant to help healthcare facilities to prevent the development of these conditions by implementing certain measures (Hollnagel, Braithwaite, & Wears, 2015). These measures have been developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in an effort to improve healthcare safety in health care facilities. Some of these measures include following certain enacted protocols and guidelines to prevent these conditions and other infections from developing (Hollnagel, Braithwaite, & Wears, 2015). Some of the actions, which healthcare organizations have implemented to prevent theses events from happening within their healthcare facilities, include using specific tools and programs (Hickey & Brosnan, 2012). One of the programs which has been adopted by healthcare facilities include the Hospital Acquired Condition Reduction Program. This program is meant to encourage healthcare facilities in identifying and reducing any risk factors that contribute to the development of these health conditions (Hickey & Brosnan, 2012). This is beneficial since most of the health conditions may be prevented through the implementation of certain preventive measures.
Healthcare facilities have also enhanced and improved staff education, which is meant to educate and train healthcare professionals on the best and most effective strategies to implement to prevent the development of these health conditions (Hickey & Brosnan, 2012). Some of the educational programs include infection control, which is meant to protect patients from acquiring certain infections during their admission in healthcare facilities (Dunn, Kathuria, & Klotman, 2013). Most healthcare facilities have also integrated technology in their delivery of healthcare services, which includes the use of electronic record system and electronic monitoring of admitted patients (Dunn, Kathuria, & Klotman, 2013). This is important in enabling the healthcare facilities to detect any infections or the development of certain healthcare conditions at an early stage, which can allow the healthcare facilities to manage the health issues at an earlier stage (Dunn, Kathuria, & Klotman, 2013).
