Health Insurance Policy Coverage(Vornovitsky J. C., 2016) Research report research report classifies health insurance coverage into three different groups: private health insurance, government health insurance, and the uninsured. Private health insurance includes cov¬erage provided through an employer or union and coverage purchased directly by an individual from an insurance company or through an exchange.
The Census Bureau, the Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC) and the American Community Survey (ACS) showed that, the per¬centage of people without health insurance coverage for the entire calendar year was 8.8 percent, or 28.1 million, lower than the rate and number of uninsured in 2015 (9.1 percent or 29.0 million) Though many people had a single health insurance cover. Some few had multiple insurance covers.
The study also revealed that the uptake of insurance cover premiums was influenced by age, occupation and work experience, marital status, disability status ,education attainment, house hold income and residency(urban or rural).Report of a study done by the Tanzanian Government in collaboration with European Union and World Health Organization(WHO) showed health insurance program is almost voluntary for all members by 60% while 40% reported to be compulsory for all members as advocated with government policy for public servants(Public and Parastatal). The health insurance coverage in Tanzania does not insure specific groups of private sector employee and groups from informal sectors, pensioners, specific communities, children who are under 12 years, unemployed and anyone who can afford to pay for the contribution arranged by the specific health insurance.Analysis showed that all health insurance are providing primary care for outpatient visits, preventive services, emergency room care, maternity care, inpatient medicines and outpatient medicine. Medicines are almost accessible to all health insurance members by 80% regardless whether the patient gets inpatient or outpatient medicines benefits.
