Helen has lived alone and transformed her home into a work of art by crafting countless cement wise men, pilgrims on camels (facing east), wise old owls, mermaids, and other figures around the house and decorating the inside with an abundance of candles and mirrors. She finds comfort in filling her life with light through creative works of art. She has created her own “Mecca” within the Christian-dominated village Nieu Bethesda in the Karoo and all her sculptures represent her very own personal life journey, through symbols of artistic expression, freedom and spiritual fulfillment.
