How far is fashion willing to go? Does Fur belong in the Fashion Industry?High maintenance: Keeping high end fur can become expensive. The person owning the fur has to keep it somewhere that it won’t get destroyed so that it looks nice whenever they wear it. When they have it cleaned the fur has to go to a cleaner that will clean it and its usually a fur specific cleaning business and that can also get expensive. The audience I want to address are the people who think its ok to kill these animals to wear fur just because its fashionable.
People don’t need fur to make an outfit look good, or to make themselves seem more expensive. Animals don’t need to be killed just for a fashion statement. I want to show people that animals are basically people too, just because fur may be fashionable doesn’t mean the need to trap them and let them suffer for days or hours on end.
Animals deserve to live just as much as humans do. PETA- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals They have staged many protests and ads to oppose the use of fur for fashion. They have also done extensive research on the conditions of how these animals are caught and how they are kept.A 2003 Michigan State University study states that ” the United States mink industry adds almost one thousand tons of phosphorus to the environment each year.”PETA-“Animals who are trapped in the wild can suffer for days from blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and attacks by predators. They may be caught in steel-jaw traps that slam down on their legs, often cutting to the bone; Conibear traps, which crush their necks with 90 pounds of pressure per square inch; or water-set traps, which leave beavers, muskrats, and other animals struggling for more than nine agonizing minutes before drowning.
” (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) Adding information about how the animals are trapped and kept in confined spacesMentioning the protests PETA has done through the years I also want to add research into my counterargument. Being able to do that will show that even though I have taken this side to the argument there are still other sides to the argument.
