In a project environment setting as project team is a purposive structure and usually consists of different team size, team composition and needs to achieve its project goals within certain resource and time constraints (Project Management Institute, 2008). Unlike teams which are ongoing projects team trust, team cohesion, team satisfaction and team effectiveness are difficult to form due to temporary nature of the project team in a multi-ethnical and multi-cultural. In another study by Tuckman (Tuckman Bruce W, 1965) he details the stages that a team goes through on their way to high performance. The four stages are: (i) Forming at this stage the team members get to know each other, they are more polite and form relationships. Some are anxious, as they haven’t fully understood what work the team will do. Others are simply excited about the task ahead. (ii) Storming this is the most difficult phase as this is where the team gets to experience personality clashes.
Others may get to question the groups’ vision and shun away from taking on tasks. If not handled appropriately the team may not pass this phase. (iii) At the norming stage the team members get to develop sense of belonging as they bring out the best from each other taking into account their strengths and have mutual respect. There is often a prolonged overlap between storming and norming, because, as new tasks come up, the team may lapse back into behavior from the storming stage. (iv)Performing stage the term achieves set objectives as a result of hard work with no friction due to process and structures put in place.
