In the essay written by Elisabeth Ross called “On the Fear of Death” focuses on the study of death, dying and grief. Ross explains other people’s experiences in the process of dying. Across the globe family and friends are losing their loved ones to texting while driving accidents. Nowadays many people try to be connected with the world and their friends by using mobile devices. Texting and driving has become a huge problem in the world.
It is true that most people know that texting and driving is dangerous, but they still do it anyway. It’s extremely distracting to the person behind the wheel and can cause harm to others on the road. It’s important that the United States takes action and enforces texting while driving laws. Most teenagers at the age sixteen and nineteen are usually the one using their cellphones behind the wheel. Rose states, “Epidemics have taken a great toll of lives in past generations” (92). Now texting and driving has become one of the largest epidemics in the world. While one person is driving, there are most likely to look down at their cell phones to send a text message that could put their life or other lives towards harm. While texting and driving at the same time, people do not seem to think about the harm they are bringing to themselves.
Texting and driving are more dangerous, than any other accidents that happens. Although, it may seem important to check to see if you got a text message, so they can check their phone. It’s important to not check their phone at all, their lives are more important than a notification. (This whole paragraph is repeated, try to make different accusations) Having a cell phone seems to be important to people now. They are constantly checking their cell phones all the time. Even if it’s just a quick glance, in a split second everything turns upside down. A cell phone is not just a device to communicate wirelessly, it’s now a much more sophisticated way to scorer the web in our generation.
A cell phone has all the gadgets you can use for anything you need; you can play games, check social media, text, call, and email. Once someone actually has a cell phone, they easily get distracted because of the many opportunities they can use. Nobody does not like to feel disconnected or left out from other family and friends or social media. So now they try to keep up with the latest news on social media to not feel left out. It’s becoming a big issue and a very dangerous situation on the road. Statistics state that, “over 6,000 deaths and half a million injuries are caused by distracted drivers each year” (Edgar Snyder and associate, 2013). People can get easily distracted by a simple text message. Now the government are taking texting while driving more seriously, they are starting to take more action into the situation.
Throughout the years there has been more car crashes due to the fact that one driver was being distracted while driving. People should be more cautious on the road, instead of putting their attention on their cell phones, because of the families and children in the vehicle. People seem to not take texting and driving seriously. They think that it is okay for them to text or check their phone on the road.
They think they are cautious while driving and checking their phone, when the truth is that texting while driving is completely dangerous. All over on the internet, there are people making comments, concerns, and wanting it to be safer place on the road. A logical appeal strengthens this argument by stating facts and shocking statistics about texting while driving being a big problem and dangerous to other people. A fact states that, “driving a vehicle while texting is six times more dangerous than driving while intoxicated” (Alcohol problems and solutions, 2012). Texting while driving is a bigger issue than we thought because the facts clearly state that being on the phone and driving is way more dangerous than being intoxicated while driving. They both are being compared together and stating a problem between the both of them, showing that they are both the biggest problems on the road. Other people are starting to argue back about the situation because they are trying to deny it and say it is not much of an impact to them. Over the years there have been an increasing number of accidents and deaths relating to texting while driving.
There are different ways we can resolve the situation. We can turn off our cell phones while driving, or do not even use it while driving. Law makers found a way to reduce risk and increase driver safety by creating a law that prevents or limits the use of cell phones while driving. We can make an effort from manufacturers, law enforcement, to attend a two-hour class on distracted driving and how to prevent it.
