The authors first outline the importance of media in the development of children’s beliefs and values. After establishing the impact of media, they talk about the four themes about couples and families that they observed in Disney movies: 1) family relationships are a vital component, 2) families are diverse, 3) fathers are shown as superior to mothers, and 4) dating relationships are characterized by “love at first sight,” easy, and show males as having more power than females.This source helps me answer my question by explaining the social message children take away from Disney films. While I do find out the message that children take away from Disney films. This text leaves me with questions 1) What is the difference between older and new films? 2) Does age make a difference when watching television? 3) What is the impact on society?2.

The essay argues that the way Disney illustrates women in animated films sends specific messages about women to children.This source helps me answer my question by outlining the impact of Disney on the way women are perceived currently as well as how their newer movies may change the American culture. After reading the article however I have questions. 1) Is Disney taking on traditional roles? 2) What is the impact of families over time? 3) Why is Disney changing the way the mothers are looked at?3. In this essay, Kristen Salyer found that appealing into princess culture could make children more vulnerable to gender stereotypes. The experiment showed that girls are supposed to have “girl toys” and boys are supposed to have “boy toys”. It also gave insight on that girls are more engage with the princess rather than boys. This source helps because even though it is a small study, it could highlight the Disney Princesses and toys effect that it has on girls and boys. After reading it still leaves me with questions 1) Why are toys made for certain genders? 2) Why is it just the girls that pay attention? 3) What does looking up to a princess do to your child?4. In the article it talks about female gender stereotypes but not with male. She found that it had no impact on body esteem. Also, no impact on prosocial behavior.

In this popular essay, Minot Pettinato argues about how Disney have received a lot of criticism for their films but also that there are many positive influence Disney films have made and still are making. The benefits of equality, safety, hope and self-acceptance are all issues covered by Disney films. While not always the case in life, Disney movies encourage children to believe and hope.
This source helps me answer my question because it shows what is put into Disney films and how it impacts the children. After reading the article I still have question about 1) Why are people saying Disney isn’t doing those things? 2) What terrible things are they putting in them? 3) What putting these things in movies help families? 7. In the popular essay by Lucinda Everett talks about how children films always have life lessons. If there’s something you do not really want to talk to a child about, most likely there’s a film that will. Films are the perfect way for them to understand but feel safe and ask questions freely.This source help me answer my question because it talks about how movies help children with their life lessons.
