Kesha the vision board and our financial literacy

Kesha Jeter 10/16/2018Final Reflection Paper Professor Tiffany Tardy Attending Mount Mary University has honestly been the best decision I have ever made hands down. I love the environment and how homey this campus makes me feel. I have met some wonderful girls, had amazing discussions and I have also learned that we have all experienced similar trials and tribulations in our lives that has made us better individuals. I am so sad that I will not be able to carry out another semester here but I have enjoyed every moment that I had here.

I am extremely thankful that I was fortunate enough to be apart of the Grace Scholars Team. I enjoyed our classes during the summer, but two particular sessions that I loved the most was the vision board and our financial literacy class. We made vision boards and did goal setting, this taught me alot and it really helped me to create a plan or vision of what I wanted my future to look like. I never thought about taking the time to do something like that but I’m glad I did and it really helped me alot. The financial literacy class definitely helped me also because lord knows when it comes to money I am definitely terrible with saving and investing my money into what I actually need and not what I want. I learned how to budget my money and now that is a tip that I used still to this day. I am very grateful I had the opportunity to take part in that class because it really payed off. My classes were awesome classes but I would have to say I learned the most in my composition class taught by Tanya Keenan and my social justice class that was taught by Jordan Anderson.

I learned so much from these classes and we had some very good discussions about race, domestic violence, rape all the way to community violence and much more. I learned the values and the benefits of being a woman. I learned that I am beautiful and that I can do anything that I put my mind too. I have learned so much about myself during this first semester. I learned that I can speak up for myself and that no matter what anybody says my opinion does matter.

I learned that I can be independent and that I don’t always have to rely on my parents to do everything for me. I learned how to be responsible because I was the one on top of my homework, essays, speeches, and classwork making sure that it was getting done. I made sure that I made it to class on time and woke up at the right times for school. I learned that I am not the only one that has been through things in my life. All of the young women here have a story themselves and I am so glad that I have gotten to meet these different women and build a relationship with them. My goals for next semester are to minor in early childhood education while continuing to major in communications.

I have always wanted to do something in my future working with kids and now that I know that I can study 2 different things at the same time I feel that this is the best fit for me. A personal goal that I have is to prove to my family that I can be very independent and being at White-Water will prove that to them. All my life I have been trying to prove this but I have not had the freedom to and now that I will be leaving I can prove my entire family wrong.

A professional goal that I have for myself is to find a internship that pays good and that will teach me alot and help me network to find a future career. I am very excited for my next semester but I am also sad to have to let Mount Mary go. I am really going to miss the group discussions, the small class sizes, the girls that I have built friendships, I am definitely going to miss the drama free environment. I definitely will miss Tiffany Tardy because I was able to talk to her freely and I was not judged by her once. I was able to open up to her and express the way I feel and talk about things that I was going through which is something that I have never had before.

Mount Mary has definitely changed me and the way that I view people now. I am so thankful for this experience and I am proud to have been a Mount Mary Student.
