Most professional in the field believed that it is best to start learning foreign language in primary school while other practitioner suggested that start to learn that in secondary school is more efficient.
Learning foreign language in primary school is undeniably more favorable in terms of boosting confidence level and building new relationships. Firstly, learning foreign language in primary school fosters student’s confidence level. As a matter of fact, bilingual students in primary schools have the capability to express things more clearly as they have a better vocabulary. So students will become more likely to speak more confidently in front of crowds. Moreover, learning foreign language at an early year, help student to become a confident leader in class activities. As learning foreign language help children to become more knowledgeable and broad minded which help them look at a specific issue from different perspectives. Foreign language helps student to adapt easily in surrounding of different languages there by increasing their self-esteem and self- confidence. In short bilingualism creates confident and make student found their identities that improves their self-esteem.
The second advantage of learning foreign language in primary school is that, it helps students to build new relationships with foreigners. Communication is the core part of human relationships, so bilingual children build bridges to new relationships because they have the capability, to communicate with diverse people. In addition, bilingual students can be a bridge between two children from different language, so bilingual children can translate and help out. Correspondingly, being able to communicate with people from different countries and cultures exposes the child to different ways of thinking.
That means, acquiring foreign languages can also help primary school students to understand other cultures. At the same time, some people believe that learning a foreign language in primary school could be a waste of time, since student need to focus on other subjects such as, math and science, which they might need more than a foreign language. However, this is not true, as learning a foreign language is as important as other subjects. Foreign language could be the key to understanding math and science; for instance, in China high school students are studying math and science in English not their first language. So primary school students can derive lots of benefits by learning a foreign language. To sum up, there are some significant advantages of learning foreign language at early years, such as, building new relationships and boosting confidence levels. Primary schools are the best places to enhance student’s language ability.
Due to the benefits of learning foreign language at early stages, it is clear that a student equipped with more languages is definitely needed in society to make the country more prosperous and flourished in the decade to come. Word Count: 515
