(1) The first outbreak of NiV encephalitis was reported in pigs as well as in humans in peninsular Malaysia during September 1998 to April 1999. Later, human cases of NiV encephalitis were also reported from Bangladesh and India. In 2001, the first outbreak of NiV encephalitis in Meherpur district of Bangladesh was reported.
