Many pearls, and usually served cold with ice.

Many people have different opinions about beverages. Bubble Tea is a popular beverage also known as pearl milk tea, milk tea, boba, tapioca tea, the drink with the fat straw, any combination of the above, etc. The original Bubble Tea is basically brewed black tea or green tea mixed with milk, sugar, any-sized chewy tapioca pearls, and usually served cold with ice.

It is a Taiwanese tea-based drink invented in Tainan and Taichung in the 1980s. The beverage has a variety of different flavours and toppings. However, an Energy Drink is a beverage containing stimulant drugs, usually including caffeine, which is marketed as providing mental and physical stimulation. They are marketed as “energy”, but distinct from food energy. They may or may not be carbonated and many also contain sugar or other sweeteners, herbal extracts, taurine, and amino acids. They are a subset of the larger group of energy products, which includes bars and gels, and distinct from sports drinks, which are advertised to enhance sports performance.

There are many brands and varieties of Energy Drinks. In my opinion, Bubble Tea is better than Energy Drinks. I support this because Bubble Tea is a wise beverage as it has a nutritional choice, health benefits, and different flavours. You could make nutritional choices to make the beverage healthier. Just ask for less or no sugar including less flavoured syrup and sweetened fruit purees, and/or ask for low-fat or skimmed fresh milk, as a substitute for non-dairy creamers, and/or ask for plain Bubble Tea without the chewy tapioca pearls or the milk to reduce the calories. The drink would be healthier and it would still be delicious.

As said, it would be a healthy beverage, a health benefit is that drinking black tea or green tea every day is beneficial to health because it is a rich source of a group of antioxidants called polyphenols. Polyphenols have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. They can help to protect the body against free radicals that cause cellular damage and inflammation in the body. Some other health benefits are that it boosts energy, strengthens immune system, prevents cancer, and protects heart health. Also, there are now over 250 varieties of flavours and choices of a Bubble Tea drink. Bubble Tea is great as it has a lot of flavours. Some fruity and creamy flavours include mango, lychee, honeydew, avocado, etc. Other popular non-fruity and creamy flavours include taro, chocolate, coffee, mocha, black milk tea, lavender tea, and rose tea.

Some cafes and shops offer non-creamy drinks by using fruit pulp syrups like passion fruit, strawberry, lychee, and honeydew. Also, there are toppings other than tapioca. There is popping boba, coconut jelly, mini mochi, ice cream, jam, brown sugar jelly, pudding, red bean, etc. The only down points are that some tapioca pearls made in Taiwan were found in May 2013 to contain a harmful additive, maleic acid. These contaminated pearls were immediately withdrawn from sale for the safety of consumers. Also that drinking pearl milk tea regularly may not be a healthy choice if you are watching your weight or controlling your calorie and sugar intakes. However, Energy drinks carry a lot of Caffeine and sugar. According to fitbug.

com, “Energy drinks also have a lot of sugar, about the same as a can of coke, or as much as 8-10 teaspoons. While this sugar in combination with the caffeine will increase your blood sugar levels and give you an initial energy burst, this is usually followed by a sudden fall in blood sugar levels, causing a “crash” and you feel tired and lethargic again.” Plus, they are not good for exercising. They will dehydrate you giving you less energy to workout. They also can become addicting, Causes headaches or Migraines due to withdrawal from caffeine, lack of sleep as too much caffeine will definitely keep you awake, Jitters as it can make you jittery and anxious, and Niacin which is one of the main ingredients in Energy Drinks. Although it helps relieve arthritis pains and lower blood lipids, niacin can cause dizziness and rapid heart rate. Plus, you can get High Blood Pressure as the Caffeine has the ability to raise a person’s blood pressure.

Despite that, it does give a good energy boost, Vitamin B, Pantothenic Acid which helps with allergies, stress, anxiety and skin disorders, and Riboflavin which can treat muscle cramps and blood disorders. Anyways in the end, they are both great beverages. In my opinion, Bubble Tea is better as there are many varieties of flavours, and healthy choice to make the beverage healthier, and it tastes really good. Plus, Bubble Tea has more positive points and less negatives than Energy Drinks.
