Maxine Waters is different from your average member. She is a black woman house member serving the 43rd district. Given her demographic she is in a unique position in serving her constituents. As an active congresswoman, she has done a considerable amount for her constituents.

Her district, which is predominantly minority, has suffered from years of despair, urban decay, and violence. Because of her race and upbringing, Mrs. Waters has come forward as a champion for her people. Her hands are not completely clean as at times she is more “responsive” to those close to her than her constituents.

Waters was raised by her single mother and started working at age thirteen. Waters has dealt with the vast injustices and hardships that the African American community has felt.She displays a sense of identity with us so that her constituents can identify with her personal concern for local projects and her political stances. Her general policy stance does not get too frequently out of line with what the belief in constituents. The fifth out of thirteen children, Waters was raised by her single mother once her father left the family when Maxine was two. Waters dealt with the vast injustices and hardships that the African American community has felt.

Such circumstances have ignited a passion in Congresswoman Maxine Waters, that has led her to a life of commitment to her people, our nation’s minorities, and to reforming our political system, our ideology, our society.
