Citation The United States has many nuclear weapons. It is one of the five nuclear states known by the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons according to the NTI organization. It is the only country to ever use nuclear technological weapons against another country when it launched its atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan in 1945. Since then, the United States has distributed arms to many European countries including Germany, Italy, Turkey, and others. However, in recent years, the United States has opted to dismantle their warheads and eventually plan to reduce their weaponry to zero. The United Nations, commonly referred to as the UN, wrote out a treaty called, The Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons to stop the spread of nuclear arms, get rid of nuclear armament and to further peaceful nuclear energy. The purpose of these bases is to stop countries without nuclear power from obtaining them.
This treaty was established in 1970 and almost 200 nations have already signed the document in which they agree to the terms. The document also has a 5-year revision period, in which, the nations get together to revise the articles of the treaty. In 2010 the treaty had a positive review. However, in 2015, debates in the Middle East drew obstructions that weaken the treaty and tossed into question the bases of the treaty. There are four countries that spark question as to their use of nuclear technology. Those states are the United States, Israel, Iran and Italy.
