In fast growing generation nothing is possible without electricity and day by day electricity demand is increases. That’s way we need some intelligent control system for these problem solved in our city. We know about all problem solution and controlling is much difficult in developed country. That’s why we need some good controlling and security system for our country. For this problem we can use best power management using PLC AND SCADA Controlling. The system uses PLC to collect various intelligent instruments on site and electrical parameters of devices. They will be uploaded to the monitoring system by the switch through the serial server.

In fast growing generation nothing is possible without electricity. Day by day electricity demand is increases and In Present time we having many problems about electricity like, Energy saving, Energy controlling, Power saving, Power -controlling, Energy theft activity, Security, Fault finding etc.
We cannot got the particular data as date wise and we cannot got perfect consumption as area wise also we cannot go directly data from the system, That’s why we need some intelligent control system so, it can be solved problem that we are facing.
We know about all problem solution and controlling is much difficult in developed country. That’s way we need some intelligent control system for these problem solved in our city
That’s why for this problem I can use best power management using PLC and SCADA Con-trolling System.
Aim and Object
The main aim of our project is to reduce the effect of Power loss, Power theft and how to save the electricity through PLC ; SCADA based system.
Purpose of study
For solving these problems we can use PLC and SCADA based Controlling System.
By using this project, we can develop total power distribution system using step-down trans-former, distributed all substation and feeder, these all are controlled by PLC and SCADA system. If any problem or fault created or Energy theft activity done at any instant of time so, we can get notification from SCADA system with alarm. And also by using some communication base energy meter, we can find out the energy drop in such area or society.
So, we can easily find out any problem which occurred in the system also get the information about all the data. After finding out the problem we can make some correction in that by using SCADA system.
By using PLC and SCADA Controlling System, we can operate our metro city with energy saving, energy controlling, Anti power thief activity, power controlling, power safety, security, fault findings etc.
Main advantage of this project is that we can develop and monitoring whole city from one place only.
Plan of work
First of all we learn the PLC and WPS (PLC) software.
We have installed The WPS software then we learn basic concepts and basic programs so that we can get familiar to the software. We have done some examples like programming of Timer, Counter, and some special functions.
We have learnt The SCADA which we also use in our project. We have learnt basic concepts, some basic function, and also how to use this in our project so that we can work easily.
After this we have studied our trainer kit. Which has SMPS, Relay card, MCB, Push button, Contactor, Energy meter, Current Transformer.
By the end of 7th semester we have implement first algorithm DELTA PLC.
In the beginning of 8th semester we will implement our further algorithms i.e. SCADA, Current transformer, Energy meter.
Real time Data Analyzing
Load Control and Monitoring
Pollution in Smart City
Interactions : Men to Machine
Customer to Electricity Bill
Bill collector to Customer
Real time data monitoring
After using the project it is very helpful for build management process ; also for energy saving purpose.
After using the project power theft is reduce and accurate bill is generated for customer satisfaction.
Much more power theft work created bill was not generated properly sometimes it will be higher or lower than expected and was difficult for bill collection.
It was very difficult for bill management process and because of power theft lots energy wasted.
Energy meter reading
Real time data Acquisition
Probes /possible solution:
Accurate data monitoring
No power Thief
PLC ; SCADA Based Controlling ; Monitoring of Energy Meter with Modbus Communication.
Control power supply
Reduce electricity cost
Reject, Redesign, And Retain:
First we use Rectifier circuit for DC voltage output then we change rectifier circuit to SMPS as DC output.
3.1 Block Diagram
A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is a digital computer used for automation of electromechanical processes, such as control of machinery on factory assembly lines, oil refineries and waste water treatment etc.
It uses a programmable memory to store instructions and execute specific functions that include ON/OFF control, timing, counting, sequencing, arithmetic and data handling.
A PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER (PLC) is a solid state control system that continuously monitors the status of devices connected as inputs. Based upon a user written pro-gram, stored in memory, it controls the status of devices connected as outputs.
SMPS stands for Switched Mode Power Supply.
Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) uses a switching regulator to convert electric power efficiently. SMPS always provide a well regulated power to the load irrespective of the input variations.
A switched-mode power supply (SMPS) is an electronic power supply that incorporates a switching regulator to convert electrical power efficiently. Like other power supplies, an SMPS transfers power from a source, like mains power, to a load, such as a personal computer.
SMPS regulates the output power by varying the on to off time using minimum voltage so that efficiency is very high compared to the linear power supply.
I have used Energy Meter in this project for see the data also in our project, the Manufacturer of the Energy Meter is Schneider Electric and Model No. of this Energy Meter is EM: 1200.
Aim of using this serial communication is to communicate different meters to make centralized monitoring system. Also more No. of Energy Meter Connected with the help of RS-485 Serial Communication. For more No. of Energy-Meter connected in series, wires connected series of point to point nodes.
A relay is an electrically operated switch. Many relays use an electromagnet to mechanically operate a switch, but other operating principles are also used, such as solid-state relays.
Relays are used where it is necessary to control a circuit by a low-power signal (with complete electrical isolation between control and controlled circuits), or where several circuits must be controlled by one signal. The first relays were used in long distance telegraph circuits as amplifiers: they repeated the signal coming in from one circuit and re-transmitted it on another circuit. Relays were used extensively in telephone exchanges and early computers to perform logical operations.
A type of relay that can handle the high power required to directly control an electric motor or other loads is called a contractor. Solid-state relays control power circuits with no moving parts, instead using a semiconductor device to perform switching.
A push-button or simply button is a simple switch mechanism for controlling some aspect of a machine or a process.
Buttons are typically made out of hard material, usually plastic or metal. The surface is usually flat or shaped to accommodate the human finger or hand, so as to be easily depressed or pushed.
It automatically switches off the electrical circuit during abnormal condition of the network means in over load condition as well as faulty condition. The fuse does not sense but miniature circuit breaker does it in more reliable way. MCB is much more sensitive to over current than fuse.
Another advantage is, as the switch operating knob comes at its off position during tripping, the faulty zone of the electrical circuit can easily be identified. But in case of fuse, fuse wire should be checked by opening fuse grip or cut out from fuse base, for confirming the blow of fuse wire.
Handling MCB is more electrically safe than fuse.
A current transformer (CT) is a type of transformer that is used to measure AC current. It produces an alternating current (AC) in its secondary which is proportional to the AC current in its primary. Current transformers, along with voltage or potential transformer, are Instrument transformer.
Current transformers are the current sensing units of the power system. Current transformers are used at generating stations, electrical substations, and in industrial and commercial electric power distribution.
SCADA is “Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition” – real time industrial process control systems used to centrally monitor and control remote or local industrial equipment such as motors, valves, pumps, relays, etc.
A SCADA system gathers information (such as where a leak on a pipeline has occurred), transfers the information back to a central site, then alerts the home station that a leak has occurred, carrying out necessary analysis and control, such as determining if the leak is critical, and displaying the information in a logical and organized fashion.
