There were over 300,000 recorded cases in 2017 of the bacterial STDs Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and early Syphilis alone. Most people infected with an STD don’t even show any concerning symptoms. In fact, most people don’t even know that they had unprotected sex with an infected person and now they have the disease too.
STDs are sexually transmitted diseases. Therefore, most are transmitted through an exchange of bodily fluids or during unprotected sex with an infected person, but others, such as pubic lice and scabies, can be transmitted by skin to skin contact. There were 30 stillbirths caused by syphilis in 2017, which is the highest number since 1995. Many other children of STD positive parents have severe neurological problems, deformities, blindness, and other serious health issues.
