The 9/11 AttacksSeptember 11 2001Terrorism is an act of violence or intimidation against a group of people. It is often based on political or religious beliefs. I see terrorism as an extremely large scale act of bullying.
The terrorists aim is to increase a level of fear or uncertainty into people’s daily lives.Part OneThe particular event I am focusing on is the 9/11 attacks in America. On the 11th of September 2001 1 American Airways planes and 1 United Airlines plane crashed into the World Trade Center. A second American Airlines plane set to crash into the Pentagon deliberately crashed into a field when the passengers tried to gain control of the plane. A fourth plane was set to crash into the Capitol Building or the White House but the passengers tried to win back control of the plane. Although 19 men, all Al Qaeda extremists, hijacked 4 planes. When White House Chief of Staff, Andrew Card alerted then President George W. Bush that a plane had hit the World Trade Center, the President was visiting an elementary school in Sarasota, Florida when he was told.
The 4 extremists were aged between 23 and 33.The leading terrorists were:Mohamed Atta-33Marwan al-Shehhi-23Hani Honjour-26Ziad Jarrah-29Mohamed Atta and four other extremists hijacked American Airlines Flight 11 which took off at 7:59 and crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Centre at 8:46.Marwan al-Shehhi and four other extremists hijacked United Airlines Flight 175 which took off at 8:14 and crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Centre at 9:03Hani Honjour and four other extremists hijacked American Airlines Flight 77which took off at 8:20 and crashed into the western façade Pentagon at 9:37Ziad Jarrah and three other extremists hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 which took off at 8:42. After Ziad Jarrah had told them they were hijacked and they learnt of the previous attacks, the 33 passengers onboard tried to regain control of the plane. Because of the passengers courage, either the Capitol Building or the White House was saved.
During the 9/11 attacks 2 996 people were killed (including 19 terrorists) and more than 6 000 people were injured.Part Twoal-Qaeda is an Islamic organisation whose main goals are to wage war on US citizens and Jews. One of the reasons of their beliefs are the fact US citizens and Jews are different to them. The bible reading I chose is Galatians 3:28 because it signifies that everyone is different but still made in the image of Jesus/God.Galatians 3:28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ JesusPart 3What People Did 342 firefighters, 60 policemen, 8 emergency medical service people and a patrolman from New York Fire Patrol. Hundreds of Firefighters, Medical Staff and First Aiders, Police, Civil Air Patrol people, National Guards and the U.S Marine Corps worked to resolve the issue.
People showed a right relationship by working overtime to try and save people. Hundreds of innocent lives were lost and it created a lot of hatred between US citizens and al-Queda.What I can doThe 9/11 happened 16 years ago so I couldn’t do anything because I wasn’t born. What I can do is resolve conflict. I can do this by:No arguing with my friends/familyBe niceHaving a positive outlook Thank you for listening
