The Articles of Confederation were written agreements that were ratified for the thirteen original colonies.
It layed down the way that the goverment was supposed to function. It was created in 1777 but was ratified for the colonies in May of 1787. But within a few years of it being ratified it got a lot of crtiicism by the Founding Fathers. It was then made to suit the needs of the nation as a whole instead of individuals. When it came time to revise the Articles everyone came to a mutual agreement that rewriting the Constitution was a better route than revising the Articles.
