The criminological theory that I have chosen to discuss on my paper is the Social Learning Theory. What this theory is about is that social learning involves learning through the observations of other people’s attitude. As well their views, behaviors, and the outcome of those behavior. The person viewing other people’s behavior can be affected by the negative or positive consequences. This theory was developed by Albert Bandura who is a social cognitive psychologist.
Bandura argues that just people observes behavior doesn’t mean they will immediately imitate it. However, there is some thought prior to imitation and he calls this the “mediational process. There are four main concepts “mediational process” with this theory. The first one is called attention. This concept discusses the extent to which we are exposed or notice the behavior. That in order for behavior to be imitated then it needs to grab our attention.
The second concept is retention, which discusses how well the behavior is remembered.
