The same report found that 19.1 million UK households (73%) had an Internet connection. It was found that Internet use is linked to various socio-economic and demographic indicators.

For example, 60% of users aged 65 or over had never accessed the Internet, compared to 1% of those aged 16 to 24. Educational background also has an impact on Internet use. Some 97% of degree-educated adults had used the Internet, compared to 45% of people without formal qualifications. In 2010, there were an estimated 536 million users of the English language Internet, constituting 27.3% of all Internet users. This makes the English Internet the most used in the world – only the Chinese Internet comes anywhere close, with 445 million users. The third most popular language on the Internet is Spanish, with about 153 million users.

With 9.1 million registrations in February 2011, the UK’s top-level country domain, .uk, is the fifth most popular extension in the world. It is also the second most used country-specific extension, beaten only by Germany’s .de extension. The growing importance of the Internet is critical for language technology in two ways. On the one hand, the large amount of digitally available language data represents a rich source for analysing the usage of natural language, in particular by collecting statistical information. On the other hand, the Internet offers a wide range of application areas that can be improved through the use of language technology.

English learners use internet on daily basis, so given the fact that English Internet is the most used language in the world, the impact of this language on their lives is major.5 | The impact on Media and Entertainment3.2 Books, movies & songs In today’s world, each and every English learner is open to books, movies, songs and different activities that are written, done, and performed in the English Language.Short and simple, English is everywhere.Different books, most of the literature, stories, blogs, documents/ documentary books, are written in this universal language, in English. By reading books in English language, learners expand their knowledge in language and are open to lot of opportunities of a job, and their skills are improved too, be them psychological or physiological.Movies, whether documentary ones, historical, or any other genre, help showing a story in an interesting way which makes easier for a learner to understand the language.Movies are shown to the world, and most of these movies are in English language, not to mention the fact that even though not performed in the English language, the movies are translated from any other language to the English language, with subtitles or dublication.

Most of the songs in the whole world, in order to become hits, must be understood by people so that they know what they are listening. Today, all of the songs that are most listened and heard worldwide are in the English language. It is an obvious fact that an individual learns a lot from a language through songs.Knowing the fact that songs are listened non-stop, and this as a major habit can be very productive in learning a language. Whether you understand the lyrics or not, English music is everywhere, and it’s a good idea to start paying attention to the lyrics and using them to learn.

When you start paying attention to the lyrics your listening skills naturally improve. Once you learn a few songs, you’ll start gathering an immense repertoire of songs and vocabulary. Just the fact that you start caring about the lyrics will activate your listening skills and listening to music in English will become an enjoyable learning exercise.6 | The Impact on Media and Entertainment5 THE IMPORTANCE IN EDUCATION1. English minimized the differences in standards of education:Though every nation seemed to instill modern or scientific education, there was huge difference in standard of education between the developing nations and the developed ones.

So you can find many US and UK related universities in top ranks in education. But this gap was largely minimized due to usage of some standard books as common by students of all the countries. For ex: Grays anatomy, Guyton’s Physiology used by medical students, Vogel’ s analysis used by chemistry students world wide. Use of same standard books for a subject minimized the knowledge differences among students world wide. This was again possible because these books were exclusively written in English.

2. English helped students to study abroad and get knowledge of their interest if particular course was not available in native countries.a. Not all countries could offer all the courses in their universities. For instance Astro-biology is present in very few countries like US and if a student of other countries are willing to learn the subject, they could apply there with their English language as one of their eligibility. b.

Similarly now a days there are student exchange programs between universities of different nations for better exposure of students in particular subject or field. This is again made easy due to English knowledge among the students.3. English helped in easier spread of education:a. In under developed countries like Africa, the education is spread in faster rate in the recent past.

This was possible because those countries invite professors, educationalists and experts of different subjects from developed countries to impart knowledge in their countries. Again the medium of instruction is English there, so the spread of education was easier. b. Even use of books written in English by foreign author’ s in remote places like developing countries helped in easy spread of knowledge.7 | The importance in Education6 CAREER OPPORTUNITIESGood command over English opens up various avenues for a bright career.People have been moving to different countries for better job opportunities. Being able to understand other cultures and through learning a foreign language you can bridge the gap between cultures, which would be a powerful tool in today’s modern world.

It also increases your understanding of your own culture. If you study English and its culture, you will be able to see your own culture from another perspective. Encountering other cultures will allow you to question things that you’ve taken to be universal.11 | The advantages when travellingConclusionThe essence of this paper is to show the importance of the impact of English in every field that learners will have to choose to improve their lives. There is not even a single area that learners will not have to deal with English, in order for them to be connected to the world.
