The is a classification of the position

The important structural distinguishing of earth-rock dams is a classification of the position of clay core in the dam’s body. Most of the time central vertical clay core is most often used in design of embankment dam for the following advantages in relation to the sloping core: “(1) The zone with the weakest material (core) is a maximum distance from the slopes, which makes an influence on their stability; (2) Contact between the core and foundation is shorter, which is particularly important if a grout curtain is constructed; (3) Pressure in the contact core-foundation is higher, which decreases the possibility for contact seepage; (4) It is possible to undertake remedial measures forpossibly occurring cracks in the core, by means of grouting from crest”
