The Zika virus, which is mosquito-borne, has become a global epidemic and public health threat. With outbreaks in every possible corner of the world, this virus is extremely deadly. Pregnant women are the largest number of people at risk. The Zika virus has been believed to cause Guillain-Barre syndrome, which causes babies to be born with heads that are relatively smaller than the rest of their bodies. The CDC has stated that the Zika virus, West Nile virus, yellow fever and many other mosquito-borne illnesses can contribute to grave illnesses and even death.
As of now, there are no medicines to cure the Zika. Africa is where the cure or vaccine is needed most. Islands and even some swampy states here in America could greatly benefit from a cure to the Zika virus. In 2016 the CDC noticed a spike in Zika cases and it sent the world into a frenzy. Global warming has been believed to be the cause of growing cases. The effects of the Zika virus can be severe and sometimes overshadows the effects it has on pregnant women. Pregnant women are not only responsible for themselves, but also the innocent soul that is within them.
They should be the top priority simply because they are carrying the blood supply for two.The spread of the Zika virus could have a lot to do with globalization, global warming, trade, and many other things. Mosquitos live and breed in the heat and any amount of sitting water. There have been mosquito control initiatives set in place to contain the number of people infected, but lack of resources in the originating country make it hard. Everybody is at risk, but this summer lets vow to try to keep all the pregnant women indoors and away from the Zika virus.
