Value is defined as a concept made by the public to view, measure or make choices on a subject, degree, quality and standard of behavior and things about a person or group of people as good and valuable. Pure values can be defined as a good treatment, civilization and humanitarian relationships in relation to humanity, nature and god. Wan Mohd Zahid (1988) defines pure values as the impression of the things that are sought and at the same time as criteria or measurements.
The application of pure values is a major focus in the process the formation of a person’s identity. The identity is related which is close to the individual’s morals. Without noble character and value values pure in self, identity cannot be formed and nurtured well.
Tajul Ariffin Noordin & Nor’Aini Dan (2002) explains to establish moral character, ethics and values a good person needs to master the knowledge, skills and attitudes good about value. Malaysians are well-known in terms of courtesy although the population is various races and religions. In the rapid change of the world today, the importance of moral among youth seems decrease drastically among teenagers in the world including Malaysia. Compassion, freedom, humbleness, generosity, justice, peace, tolerance, honesty, loyalty, respect and trust among other values are no longer the qualities that characterize the people in Malaysia. Cases involving morals and gaining widespread coverage and becoming viral in social media such as the naked gang in Teluk Bahang, Penang (The Star Online,2014) bullying cases involving deaths of T. Nhaveen and navy cadet officer Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain (FMT News,2017).
Not only that, the courtesy is also said to be non-existent based on the Malaysian driver’s attitude on the road, rubbish wastes everywhere and public facilities that are deliberately damaged. This is coupled with the attitude of hardcore smokers who smoke in smoking areas and non-tolerant attitudes while using public services (FMT News, 2016). As the country’s economy advances and as our society becomes more affluent, courtesy, noble values and ethics seem to be taking a back seat.
