VARK AnalysisNameInstitutionInstructorCourseDate VARK AnalysisThe VARK model is a model used in education and psychology to identify different learning styles of different individuals, which is used to determine the best strategies to implement in improving the learning process (Edelman, Kudzma, & Mandle, 2014). This model identifies the different learning styles based on their preferences, which are categorized into four categories, which include visual learners, auditory learners, Reading/writing learners, and kinesthetic learners (Edelman, Kudzma, & Mandle, 2014). The VARK model uses a questionnaire where respondents respond to different situations based on their preferred learning approaches.
Learning styles are the methods used by an individual in collecting information, organizing, processing, and interpreting information. Different individuals have different learning styles, which are essential for an educator to understand to enable him/her in improving the learning process (Edelman, Kudzma, & Mandle, 2014). VARK Questionnaire AnalysisThe VARK questionnaire analysis is meant to determine the learning styles of a particular individual through filling out a questionnaire about the preferred learning preferences (VARK, 2018). This questionnaire is important in conducting an assessment, which can help individuals to restructure and develop their learning strategies based on their preferred learning styles (VARK, 2018). From the results of the VARK questionnaire, the student’s visual scores were 4, Aural 6, read/write 4, and kinesthetic 2 which indicated that the student has a mild aural learning preference (VARK, 2018). Aural strategies include listening, discussing, talking, questioning, and recalling. This learning preference is important for understanding information communicated through speaking or audio devices (VARK, 2018). This learning style also prefers the use of questioning which improves the learning process.
These results are satisfying based on the student’s previous learning experiences (VARK, 2018). List of the Student’s Preferred Learning StrategiesTo Collect and Gather Information (VARK, 2018).Attend classes.
Use a tape recorder.Attend discussions and tutorials.Describe the overheads, pictures, and other visual to someone who was not there.Discuss topics with others.
Explain new ideas from other people.Discuss topics with the teachers.Leave spaces in your notes for later recall and filling.
Remember the interesting examples, stories, and jokes. To Process Information (VARK, 2018).Reducing the notes to enable easy reading and understanding by highlighting the major points.Summarizing the notes on tapes to listen to.Reading the summarized notes aloud.Explaining the notes to another person who prefers the same learning style.
To Improve Performance through Assignments or Examinations (VARK, 2018).Listening to the voices and writing then down.Spending time in quiet places in order to recall information.
Saying the answers aloud.Practice answering questions using old assignments or exams.Compare the Student’s Preferred Learning Strategies to the Identified Strategies for the Student’s Preferred Learning StyleThe student’s preferred learning style is almost the same as the one identified by the VARK model. Throughout the student’s education process, the student has always preferred aural which are also known as auditory learning strategies and visual learning (Edelman, Kudzma, ; Mandle, 2014).
Auditory learning style involves the use of sounds in gathering information, which has enabled the student to achieve high grades in school and be successful in different learning aspects. Discussions have been useful in helping the student to remember and process information related to any challenges from different topics (Edelman, Kudzma, ; Mandle, 2014). However, the student has also integrated visual strategies to help him in better understanding and capturing information. The student scored in all the four modalities making him a suitable candidate to apply the different learning styles in his learning process (Edelman, Kudzma, ; Mandle, 2014). However, the student may not benefit through the application of certain learning styles which he had low marks which is the kinesthetic learning style. From the learning strategies indicated from the analysis of the VARK questionnaire, there are some changes, which the student needs to apply to benefit from the aural learning style (VARK, 2018). This includes regularly attending classes and discussing topics with teachers. The characteristics of auditory learning style apply to the student where repeating certain information aloud has helped the student in memorizing and understanding information with visual aids also enhancing this process (VARK, 2018).
Visual learning style has played a key role in reinforcing the auditory learning style. Integrating visual learning has helped the student in processing information quicker and in retaining information. This collaboration of different learning styles has helped the student in learning new information, which enhances the learning process (Edelman, Kudzma, ; Mandle, 2014).
Discuss How the Awareness of Individual Learning Styles, Preferences and Strategies Influence Teaching (Those Who Are In A Position to Teach) and Learning (Those Who Are In A Position to Learn)The awareness of individual learning styles, preferences, and strategies influence teaching by helping the teacher to become more informed about the different learning styles which will enable him/her to become more effective in his/her teaching process (Edelman, Kudzma, ; Mandle, 2014). The teacher is able to implement different approaches to enable every student to understand the information. Most of the teachers use one learning style, which may not benefit all individuals, negatively affecting their performance. Teaching cannot be successful without the knowledge of the different learning styles, which must be integrated into the teaching strategies (Edelman, Kudzma, ; Mandle, 2014). The awareness of individual learning styles, preferences, and strategies influence learning by contributing to the learning outcomes. When individuals are aware of their learning styles, they are able to maximize their learning through different learning strategies (Edelman, Kudzma, ; Mandle, 2014). This can enable an individual to integrate other associated learning strategies to enhance the learning process. The learner will also be able to determine the most effective learning strategies.
Every learner has different learning styles, which the learner must understand, and how other styles can be incorporated to the preferred style to enhance the learning process (Edelman, Kudzma, ; Mandle, 2014). ReferencesEdelman, C. L., Kudzma, E. C.
