Women in mythology are almost never the hero or villian, but tend to be simply characters to progress the story. All these characters also seem to share a characteristic of being ignorant and weak, much more so than men. In the story Perseus, female characters include his mother, the gray sisters, the nymphs , and the gorgons. None are the hero’s, none are explicitly room (Polydectes is the villain not Medusa), and share a certain level of powerlessness, Perseus’s Mother has her fate decided for her and Perseus and her are sent away.
